  JACKSON LITTLE LEA GUE

8 year old (AA MINOR) Rules - 2008

1. This is a NON-competitive league — there are no standings, zero tolerance for arguments with coaches, umpires and players.

2. Only the manager, three coaches and up to one parent for keeping the batting order are allowed in the dugout or on the field at any time.

3. 6 inning game or two hours — whichever comes first.

4. An inning cannot be started 1 hour and 45 minutes after the designated start time of the game.

5. We will use a normal pitch count, but there are no walks! After a pitcher has thrown 4 balls to a player, the offenseive coach/umpire will finish off the player at bat.

6. The player pitcher will again commence pitching to the next batter, and the inning will end with 3 outs, or after the team batting has gone through their entire order.

7. A coach for the team batting will call balls and strikes from behind the pitcher. When 4 balls have been thrown to a batter, the coach will commence pitching to that batter and will continue as the umpire.

8. A player can pitch a maximum of 40 pitches or two (2) innings in a game, whichever comes first.  The innings do not have to be consecutive.

9. A pitcher who has reached 4 balls on a batter should play a defensive position, preferably behind the coach/umpire that is finishing off a batter. He should not position himself on the dirt of the infield. The coach/umpire does not field balls.

10. Every player on the team will bat in order.

11. Maximum of 10 players in the field, and a maximum of 4 may play the infield.

12. Each player must play at least 3 innings in the field and at least one of them in the infield.

13. There is no stealing.

14. There is no advancement on an error.

15. A batter may only attempt to proceed to 2nd base if a batted ball has CLEARLY gone out of the outfield on a fly or line drive.

16. A runner may only advance two bases if there is a ball hit into the outfield as described in rule #15.

17. A runner on 2nd base may score if a ball gets through the infield.

18. Sliding feet first is allowed and encouraged.

19. A fair ball hit over the fence is a Home Run!

20. A team should maintain a scorebook for batting order purposes only.

21. Runners may NOT advance on a ball that gets by a catcher (see #14 also).

22. Only certified coaches on the field or in the coach's boxes. A coach may assist his defense and position himself in the field of play, but only by positioning himself in the outfield.

23. A team will technically forfeit if it has less than 7 players to start a game, but scrimmage or practicing during that scheduled game time by both teams is encouraged.

24. Every team should attempt to field a catcher.

25. Games must start on time. Make sure you are off a field in time to allow for any following game to start on time.

26.  Once a player has pitched in a game he cannot then play the position of catcher.  A catcher, however, can come into pitch at any time in the game, however, he may not then return to the catcher's spot upon completion of pitching.
